How do I purchase a class?
Step #1: Begin from the home page of MyArtTutor, and select your tutor:

Step 2: The tutor's individual home page comes up in a new window in your browser. I select my class. Some tutors have more than one on this page. From this page, I can study all about this tutor.

Step 3: The options for that class are in the next window. In this case, there are two levels for "Painting the Simple Still Life". Select the Sub-class, in this example I am selecting #101B Level 2, because I want some feedback from the tutor.

Step 4a: The next window directs me to the shopping cart software, ZenCart. This site is where I will register for an account if this is my first visit. (My information is secure and will never be sold...it is just a method for managing students and is only accessible by the admin of MyArtTutor). I review my selection and if it is correct, I click on the add to cart button:

Step 4b: The registration page looks like the page below. (Depending on whether you have explored the site, your browser will either go direct to the purchase page OR to the registration page. At some point you will have to register to purchase the class.)

Step 5: When I click on the add to my cart button in Step 4a, this is the next window that appears. It re-confirms that I made the selection I intended. If not, I can begin again.

Step 5b: I can also continue shopping. If I select to keep shopping, I will be re-directed to the ZenCart main page, which shows all classes and products offered by MyAT, grouped by categories. Again, the log in page appears (if I haven't logged in), or my session has timed out. From here, I can add additional items to my shopping cart.

What Can I Expect from a Virtual Class?
Virtual Teaching is the new trend in K-12 education, and new technologies are being introduced every day. MyArtTutor will add training as often as necessary to ensure you get the maximum benefit from your Virtual Class.

Basically, our tutors are offering content based on their traditional workshops and classes. Some workshops are 'themed' i.e. 'How to Abstract a Landscape from Photography'; 'How to Paint a Simple Still Life'; etc. The amount of content and teacher interaction is based on what you would receive from a workshop with 20-24 students...however, our goal is to add to that. If you are interested in a more flexible experience, some of the tutors will offer a 'class' format where each student can work at their own pace, on their own projects.

Some MyAT classes will utilize a blog format where tutor comments are written...you can print or download these to your own computer. Some MyAT tutors are very comfortable with audio commenting, and will use that type of technology. You will need to be comfortable with your computer and have high-speed internet for full enjoyment of these classes/workshops. It will be a necessity for you to be able to take digital photos of your assignments and be able to post them, if you enroll in an interactive class.

Studying from your own studio relieves much of the pressure present in a temporary space. You will have none of the expenses associated with traditional workshops…drive-time, lunches, time off from work/family, etc. You will save time, wear, and tear on moving and setting up a painting space somewhere else.

How long do I have access to the class materials/comments?

Each class description will have this information. However, we will make sure you have fair warning! There is a period of time after the last assignment for you to catch up with the class…in case you have missed a one. During the class and the 'free' time after, you can print or copy the content from your class.

What about Materials?

If there are specific materials necessary for your full experience, they will be listed on the page with the details about the class. In some cases, a general assortment of pigments will suffice, in other cases the exact pigment and brand may be necessary to accomplish exactly what the tutor does. Besides a full list posted with the class, you will be able to access a personal shopping cart to a major art supplier online that contains that tutor's list. You have the opportunity to select which items you need and have the order shipped direct to you.

What if I am not familiar with the tutor?

Full resources, links, and pertinent websites are available for your research about a tutor. Most of our tutors offer a YouTube video or slideshow that will help you select your perfect class. Some even offer you the opportunity to 'audit' their class (with no interactivity). Several e-books are available if you'd like a bit more information. All prices, all levels, all mediums are available.

How much time will the class take?

Each class is different…typically, a 4-week class will have one tutor assignment a week, around one hour. If the tutor is demonstrating as part of the assignment it might be a bit longer. You will have 5 days (determined by the tutor) to work on your assignment and post it before the next class. If you are enrolled in one of the more interactive classes, the tutor will make comments/critiques during the following week as you work on your current assignment. If you are enrolled in a lower level class where the tutor is to comment once at the end of the class, you will only post once. Some classes will have read-only access, some will have read/write access, and some will add tutor commentary. Read the specifics of the class you want, if you have more specific questions, email us. And, of course, the amount of time you choose to invest on each assignment it totally up to you! Don't forget that one of the huge advantages of virtual learning is that you can do everything at your own pace!

Can I study with my own art group and local teacher?

Of course! These requests will be handled on an individual basis. In general, a local teacher or art group can go together and have a private study group...each tutor will have different minimum student requirements, and usually will offer a discount to the local teacher. Again, that is predicated on how many students are in the group. Email us so we can work out the details.

MATERIALS
Suggested materials are listed for each class. If you are a beginner/intermediate, we strongly advise using these. A shopping cart lto a reputable source is linked if you don't have a local art shop. Please understand that these materials are essential if you want to get the most out of a teacher's instruction. There are too many other variables in art class and we don't want material substitution to be one of them.
